THE GREAT GAME

Free, no sign up

The board is yours. Play.

Every rule works: castling, en passant, promotion, check, mate and stalemate. Two players on one screen.

White to move.

Three things while you play

How to sit next to your child

Tap a piece

Green dots show where it may go. A ring around a piece means it can be captured.

Ask before you play

Before each move ask your child: what can the other side do after this? Then count to five in silence.

Let the mistake happen

Do not correct straight away. Let the child see it alone. That is when it sticks.

Next step

The board shows the rules. The books show the order.

Twenty five lessons, arranged so a child gets from the first square to a whole game. With the exact words for the parent on every topic.

Once a fortnight

One position, one question, one answer

A puzzle you can work through with your child, plus word when the next book is out.
